The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates who back President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming FCT Area Council elections on February 21, regardless of their political party. Wike made the announcement during the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor in Abuja, describing his loyalty to the President as unwavering and saying he owed no apology for his stance.

Wike emphasized that his duty is to ensure that any candidate supporting Tinubu wins, while those who do not support the President do not succeed in the elections. He also praised Onor as a credible ally, trustworthy friend, and dependable leader.

The event featured tributes from several prominent Nigerians. Professor Anthony Eyang highlighted Onor’s journey from academia at the University of Calabar to the Senate, noting his dedication to leadership and societal advancement. Former Governor Samuel Otom described Onor as an icon and a prepared leader, while former Attorney General Chief Kalu Agabi SAN praised his courage and respect for the constitution. A Festchrift, a book honoring Onor, was unveiled by Professor Dave Imbua, accompanied by a N50 million donation from Wike and friends.
