The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he has “no regrets openly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 2022.”

Wike emphasized that his support for Tinubu has been consistent before, during, and after the 2023 presidential election.

He made these remarks at a special event celebrating his 58th birthday, according to a statement by his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on Saturday.

Wike explained that his political choices are guided by “principles of character and integrity,” and he never hid his support for Tinubu from the beginning.

He recalled that during the lead-up to the 2023 election, he was the only major figure from the main opposition party to openly back President Tinubu. He said this decision was based on fairness, justice, and his belief that power should shift to the South.

The minister also highlighted his leadership during the elections in Rivers State, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the presidential vote, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in the National Assembly, governorship, State House of Assembly, and local government elections under his watch.

At the birthday event held early Saturday at Wike’s residence in Abuja, political leaders from different parties gathered to celebrate his achievements and political influence.

Among those present were National Assembly lawmakers from Rivers State, current and former members, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, local government chairmen, close friends, and political allies.

Speakers praised Wike as an accomplished and sharp politician whose impact is felt nationwide. They encouraged him to continue his work and assured him of their ongoing support.

Ambassador Desmond Akawor, Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and former PDP chairman, described Wike as the “naked wire” of Rivers politics.

Akawor, who was the Director General of Wike’s 2015 governorship campaign, said Wike’s success showed that President Tinubu chose the right person from the PDP to collaborate with.
