The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has confirmed a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and other state leaders, aimed at resolving the ongoing political rift in Rivers State. Wike expressed confidence that the President’s intervention would likely be the last required to address the dispute.

Speaking to journalists during a routine inspection of infrastructure projects in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike highlighted President Tinubu’s role as a “father” in mediating between the Rivers State House of Assembly and the governor. “All I can tell you is that Mr. President has been very kind to the people of the state. If there seems to be a problem between the legislator and the governor, and as a father, he really has to intervene,” Wike said.

Wike noted that this marks the second intervention by the President and expressed hope that both the Assembly and Governor Fubara would uphold their responsibilities to prevent further discord. “I have told the Assembly to do the needful and obey Mr. President, which I know they will not hesitate to do. I also believe the governor will carry out his own part to make sure this is the final time Rivers people will hear this kind of discord,” he added.

During his Abuja tour, Wike also conducted an extensive assessment of ongoing road works, ensuring contractors meet quality standards and project timelines. He highlighted the completion of the Arterial Road N5 at Life Camp—also known as Obafemi Awolowo Road—from Life Camp junction to Ring Road 3. “We were at Life Camp, N5, and it’s completely finished,” he said, noting that work on walkways and streetlights is in its final stages.

The N5 road, managed by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, connects the Life Camp junction to Old Keffi Road (Dei-Dei) and is among several key projects slated for inauguration as the FCT approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026.
