The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that the newly constructed bus terminals across Abuja will commence operations once approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Wike made the announcement on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing road projects across the city. The terminals, located in Kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District (CBD), began construction in 2024. While the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals were completed and inaugurated in June 2025, the CBD terminal is near completion. Despite the inauguration, the facilities have not yet become operational.

The minister explained that operations have been delayed because qualified private operators must receive FEC approval, a process beyond ministerial authority. “After building the terminals, we said we are not going to allow the Transport Secretariat to run it. It will be handled by private individuals who have the competence. It requires FEC’s approval, but I am confident that at the next FEC meeting the contracts will be presented for approval,” he stated.

Wike also addressed concerns over vandalism of public infrastructure, highlighting enhanced security measures for street lighting and ongoing projects. He said contractors, including China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and China Geo-engineering Corporation, are incorporating security features to prevent tampering and theft.

On road construction, Wike described ongoing projects as vital steps toward improving connectivity across the FCT. Many projects are being funded through the territory’s internally generated revenue rather than the federation account.

“These initiatives, which include road networks, terminals, and street lighting, aim to improve residents’ lives and boost economic activity across the territory,” Wike said.
