In a significant move within Major League Soccer (MLS), FC Dallas has transferred Argentine midfielder Luciano “Lucho” Acosta to Brazilian club Fluminense FC. The deal, finalized on August 8, 2025, reportedly sees FC Dallas receiving $4 million, with additional performance-based add-ons.
Acosta, 31, joined FC Dallas in February 2025 from FC Cincinnati in a landmark trade valued at $5 million, marking one of the largest cash-for-player transactions in MLS history.
During his brief tenure in Dallas, he made 21 appearances, scoring five goals and providing an assist. Notably, on March 29, he became the seventh player in MLS history to record at least 75 goals and 75 assists with his goal against Sporting Kansas City.
Prior to his stint with FC Dallas, Acosta had an illustrious career with FC Cincinnati, where he became the club’s all-time leader in goals and assists, amassing 54 goals and 72 assists since joining in 2021. His exceptional performance earned him the 2023 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valuable Player award and selections to the MLS Best XI in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Fluminense FC, a prominent team in Brazil’s Série A, is set to benefit from Acosta’s playmaking abilities as they aim to strengthen their midfield. The club recently participated in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, finishing second in Group F and reaching the semi-finals.
This transfer also opens up a Designated Player roster spot for FC Dallas, providing the team with an opportunity to reshape their squad and continue building a team that plays with purpose, pride, and intensity.
Acosta’s departure from FC Dallas concludes a brief chapter in his MLS journey, but his legacy in the league remains significant. His move to Fluminense FC marks a new chapter in his career, bringing his talents to Brazilian football.
