The FBI has released surveillance footage of a person of interest in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which occurred on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University during a speech to about 3,000 attendees. The suspect, described as college-aged, was seen wearing a baseball cap, dark sunglasses, and a long-sleeved shirt adorned with an American flag and bald eagle.
Investigators have recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, and preliminary reports show that the ammunition carried messages reflecting antifascist and transgender sentiments. However, authorities caution against drawing premature conclusions about the motive.
The FBI’s investigation has been extensive, receiving over 7,000 tips and conducting more than 200 interviews. A $100,000 reward is offered for information leading to the suspect’s capture. Following Kirk’s death, President Donald Trump condemned the act and announced that Kirk will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. Vice President JD Vance also extended condolences to Kirk’s family in Salt Lake City.
The assassination has raised alarms about the increasing political violence in the U.S., with over 300 politically motivated incidents reported since the 2021 Capitol attack. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspect, urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation, which remains ongoing.
