Three individuals sustained injuries in an explosion at the NIPCO filling station in Eyean community, located along the Benin-Auchi road in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State. The incident occurred on Thursday morning while a CNG Audi-powered vehicle was being filled with gas.
Reports indicate that the explosion was triggered by allegedly counterfeit conversion kits and substandard cylinders used during the vehicle’s installation and conversion to gas. Eyewitness accounts have shared a 25-second viral video showing the aftermath of the explosion, which left a vehicle damaged.
In the video, a voice can be heard confirming the gas explosion at the NIPCO gas station. It is noted that the vehicle’s driver, along with the technician responsible for installing the CNG kits, had visited the filling station to test the system’s efficacy when the explosion occurred.
According to eyewitness reports, the explosion resulted in injuries to three individuals, including a station cleaner, a pump attendant, and another person. All injured parties were promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
