European Leaders Join India Republic Day Parade in Show of Strong EU Ties

Senior leaders of the European Union attended India’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, underlining growing political and strategic ties between India and Europe. European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen were the chief guests at the January 26 parade, a rare joint appearance that highlighted the importance both sides place on their partnership.

The leaders joined Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials at the ceremonial event, which showcased India’s military strength, cultural diversity and technological progress. Their presence was widely seen as a signal of closer cooperation between India and the European Union at a time of shifting global alliances.

Observers said the high profile participation of EU leaders at the Republic Day ceremony reflects Europe’s interest in strengthening long term ties with India as a key global partner, amid geopolitical uncertainty and economic realignments worldwide.
