Chelsea ended a run without a win by beating Everton 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto scored in the first half and the club returned to form after four games without a victory.
The head coach, Enzo Maresca, said the days before the match were very hard and used strong words to describe the experience. He called that period “the worst 48 hours since I joined the club.”
Maresca praised the players for their response after a tough week. He told reporters, “With so many problems, the players are doing very well after a complicated week,” and he stressed how little support he felt from some people in the build-up. He added, “Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst since I joined the club because many people didn’t support us.”
He repeated the sense of strain and then made clear his bond with the fans. “Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me or the team in general. I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans.”
Overall, Maresca said the result was a needed step back to stability and that he expects the team to build on this win.
