El Salvador recalls Mexico Ambassador after drug trafficking claims

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has recalled the country’s ambassador to Mexico following claims by Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch that a drug trafficking plane originated from El Salvador. Bukele vehemently denied the allegation, providing flight path data indicating the plane never entered Salvadoran airspace. He emphasized that the plane flew over the Pacific Ocean, south of El Salvador, before heading north.

The incident occurred when Mexican authorities intercepted the plane in Colima, arresting three individuals and seizing 427 kilograms of cocaine. Bukele highlighted that the arrested individuals were Mexican nationals and reaffirmed El Salvador’s firm stance against drug trafficking. He called on Mexico to clarify and correct the statement made by García Harfuch.
