The Federal Commissioner representing Ekiti State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC, Omowumi Ogunlola, has ruled out contesting for a National Assembly seat in the 2027 general elections.
Ogunlola, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives, said her decision is to focus on her current national assignment and deliver qualitative service to the country and Ekiti State.
Widely considered a strong contender capable of returning to the House of Representatives for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency II, Ogunlola cited her popularity, solid support base, and track record as a former state and federal lawmaker.
Speaking at a media event in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, she said, “Let me be very clear: I will not be contesting for the House of Representatives in 2027. However, the future remains open, and I will continue to serve Ekiti State in every capacity I can, always prioritizing the collective interest of our people above personal ambition.”
Ogunlola emphasized that her decision was guided by consultation with her political structure and key stakeholders to ensure clarity, alignment, and unity of purpose. She added that as a federal commissioner, she is entrusted with a critical national responsibility affecting revenue allocation and fiscal matters that directly impact Ekiti State.
“By constitutional and ethical provisions, anyone seeking elective office must resign from such a position. Resignation at this time could have implications for Ekiti State’s interests, and I firmly believe Ekiti is bigger than any individual ambition,” she said.
Ogunlola also thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his guidance and support and assured her supporters, political associates, and APC members that empowerment programs and initiatives will continue. She pledged to remain fully committed to the progress, development, and well-being of the people of Ekiti State.
