Human rights lawyer and former legal representative of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called for a deliberate and coordinated effort by respected Igbo leaders to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

In a press statement, Ejiofor emphasized that the complexity of Kanu’s legal situation demands more than emotional appeals or fragmented activism. He argued that only a unified front comprising credible political figures and elite legal minds can effectively navigate the intricate blend of legal, political, and diplomatic challenges surrounding the case.

He stressed that the time has come for influential Igbo personalities, particularly those with integrity and national stature, to step forward and lead a well-structured intervention. According to him, this group should include state executives from the South-East, federal appointees of Igbo descent, and other nationally respected figures capable of commanding attention and respect across Nigeria’s political spectrum.

Ejiofor dismissed the effectiveness of public outbursts and symbolic gestures, urging instead for a quiet but powerful coalition that can engage meaningfully with relevant authorities. He believes that such a coalition must also assemble a world-class legal team to take charge of the appellate process and other legal avenues available.

“This is not the time for noise or theatrics,” he stated. “It is the time for strategic diplomacy, legal precision, and political will.”

Ejiofor’s remarks come amid renewed calls for a political resolution to Kanu’s detention, with many observers urging leaders from the South-East to take a more proactive and unified stance.
