EFCC Arrests “Easy money” for Alleged Abuse of Naira Notes During Birthday Celebration

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested Iziga Ikechukwu, popularly known as “Easy money,” over the alleged abuse of naira notes during his birthday celebration.

The commission disclosed the arrest in a statement posted on X on Thursday. Ikechukwu, a 24 year old palm kernel dealer, was apprehended by operatives of the EFCC Enugu Zonal Directorate following actionable intelligence from a viral video circulating on social media.

According to the EFCC, the suspect was recorded while allegedly abusing naira notes in his hotel room during the celebration, an act considered an offence under Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act of 2007.

A preliminary investigation was conducted after receiving the intelligence, which led to Ikechukwu’s identification and eventual arrest. He was apprehended on February 28 at his residence in the Timber Market area of Enugu Ezike, Enugu State.

The commission recovered a total of N81,700 suspected to be part of the money Ikechukwu allegedly mutilated. EFCC stated that he would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The arrest highlights the EFCC’s commitment to enforcing financial laws and curbing acts considered damaging to the nation’s currency. Authorities have urged the public to avoid similar activities and report violations of financial regulations.
