Former Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Ondo State, Hon. Ebenezer Alabi, has resigned from his position as Akure North Local Government Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, citing what he described as inhuman treatment of the Ondo State All Progressives Congress leadership.
Alabi’s resignation follows the reported attack on the Ondo State APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, and other party leaders at the APC state secretariat on February 17, 2026. The incident was said to have involved hoodlums who disrupted party activities and assaulted key figures.
The situation reportedly worsened during ward congresses held across the state on February 18, leading to violence that resulted in injuries and fatalities among party members. Alabi described the developments as shameful and alarming, stating that the prevailing atmosphere made it impossible for him to function with dignity.
In his statement, he said that continuing to operate under the political camp of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would not guarantee respect for himself or other party stakeholders.
Consequently, Alabi announced his decision to align with Engr Ade Adetimehin and pledged his readiness to support the re election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu under what he described as a peaceful and secure political environment.
He emphasised that his resignation was a principled stand against political violence rather than a withdrawal from active politics. According to observers, the move reflects growing dissatisfaction within the Ondo APC and may further strengthen Adetimehin’s position amid ongoing internal tensions.
