Delta Police Foil Planned Cult Attack, Bust Robbery Networks in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele

The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned cult attack and dismantled armed robbery networks operating in Warri, Ughelli and Sapele.

According to police authorities, intelligence led operations resulted in the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of three firearms and 27 live cartridges.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a statement that on February 26, 2026, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team led by ASP Julius Robinson stormed the Ekredjebor area of Ughelli and arrested Oghenemaro Festus in the Upper Agbarho area. A pump action gun loaded with two live cartridges was recovered from him. Police said the suspect is strongly linked to a series of house to house robberies that have troubled residents.

In a separate operation following complaints from residents of Sapele about serial robberies by a motorcycle riding syndicate, operatives arrested 21 year old Prince Omanure also known as Anini. During interrogation, he led officers to a bush along the Warri Sapele Road where a fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition was hidden. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members.

Meanwhile, on February 27, 2026, acting on credible intelligence that members of the notorious Black Axe Confraternity also known as Ayes were assembling to launch attacks in Warri, operatives of the Quick Response Squad led by SP Achem Collins raided a building on Okwagbe Street Igbudu. Three suspects were arrested while others fled. Officers recovered a locally fabricated double barrel gun and 17 live cartridges concealed in the building.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, assured residents that the command remains resolute in dismantling cult groups armed robbery syndicates and violent criminal networks across the state.
