A Federal High Court in Jigawa State has fixed March 26 for the hearing of an application seeking the unconditional release and reunification of a teenager, Walida Abdulhadi, who was allegedly abducted and ually abused by a security operative.
The case, which came up for hearing on Wednesday in Dutse, the state capital, was adjourned after the defence counsel requested additional time to respond to the prosecution’s application.
Walida Abdulhadi, a resident of Hadejia Local Government Area, was reportedly abducted in 2023 and allegedly abused by Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi, an operative of the Department of State Services.
During the court proceedings the defence counsel Abdulmalik Sani asked the court for an extension of time to file a counter affidavit. He explained that the defence needed more time to gather necessary information before responding to the prosecution’s claims.
However the prosecution counsel Kabir Adamu informed the court that he was fully prepared to proceed with the hearing. Despite this the request by the defence led to the adjournment of the case.
The presiding judge Hassan Dikko subsequently fixed March 26 2026 for the hearing of preliminary objections and all pending applications related to the case.
Speaking with journalists after the court session Kabir Adamu explained that the defence had requested more time to properly prepare their counter affidavit and organize their response to the prosecution’s application.
According to the prosecution the application before the court is seeking an order compelling the Department of State Services to hand over the suspect Ifeanyi Onyewuenyi to the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State for proper investigation.
Adamu also stated that the legal action aims to secure the unconditional release of the alleged victim and ensure she is reunited with her family.
The prosecution further argued that the involvement of the Department of State Services as an interested party in the matter could compromise the fairness of the investigation and potentially affect the integrity of the judicial process.
The case has drawn public attention as legal representatives push for justice and transparency in the handling of the allegations.
