COAS Urges Unified Approach With Police To Tackle Nigeria Security Threats

The Chief of Army Staff COAS Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has called for a unified and coordinated approach among the military the Police and other security agencies as a cornerstone to addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

The call was made during a familiarization visit by Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. Lt Gen Shaibu congratulated the IGP on his appointment as the 23rd Inspector General of Police and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to deepening joint operations in line with his command philosophy.

He highlighted the longstanding professional relationship between the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, tracing it back to their joint service in the United Nations Mission in Darfur. Lt Gen Shaibu also acknowledged the Police’s support in ongoing operations against banditry and kidnapping in Kogi Kwara and Niger states, noting that these efforts have produced positive results.

“Only through a unified and well-coordinated inter agency framework can enduring peace and security be achieved nationwide,” the COAS stated, reaffirming the Army’s readiness to continue supporting Police operations.

IGP Disu emphasised the importance of strengthened collaboration and inter agency synergy to tackle internal security threats more effectively. He commended the strategic partnership between the Army and Police as vital to national security objectives.

Disu also appreciated the Army’s role in capacity building, particularly in training Police Mobile Force personnel, which has improved operational effectiveness in multiple theatres. He assured the Army of continued intelligence sharing and operational coordination to enhance joint security efforts in ongoing and future operations.
