LAGOS — Ahead of February 14 St Valentine’s Day, Mr Chidi Udo, Teens Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, House of Transformation, Surulere, has called on teenagers to embrace abstinence, uphold moral values, avoid sexual immorality, and adopt disciplined lifestyles.
Udo made the appeal during the 2026 Chastity Edition programme organised by the church on Sunday. Speaking on the theme, “Chastity, My Life of Freedom,” he emphasised that a disciplined lifestyle promotes personal growth, dignity, healthy choices, and lifelong faithfulness.
The annual Chastity Programme, usually held ahead of Valentine’s Day, aims to counter perceived immoral behaviours among youths. Hundreds of teenagers from various district branches of the AGC, as well as youths from other denominations and communities, participated in the 2026 edition, themed “Where the Spirit of God Is, There Is Freedom.”
Udo explained that the event provides a platform for teens to publicly affirm their commitment to chastity by stamping their palms on the programme banner and declaring, “I stand for chastity.” He noted that early sexual activity exposes youths to immorality, diseases, and unwanted pregnancies, while abstinence enhances personal value and promotes faithfulness in marriage.
Guest speaker Mr Victor Alukoju encouraged teens to become sexual purity ambassadors, influencing others through holy and righteous living. He added that true love honours God and should be celebrated through purity rather than sin.
Senior Pastor of the AGC, Mr Bright Anuane, also stressed that proper upbringing is key. He called on parents and guardians to guide their children morally, teaching them God’s way, especially amid growing moral decadence accelerated by the internet and artificial intelligence.
Participants like Miss Favour Edem testified that the programme has helped them live chastely, resisting peer pressure, and standing firm in their faith and values.
