Chuks Ibegbu, the former spokesperson of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed support for Peter Obi, the ex-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in his recent political engagements. Commenting on Obi’s visit to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Ibegbu emphasized that Obi has every right to meet with any politician or political group, provided the intent is to advance Nigeria’s well-being. “Peter Obi is free to hold meetings with any political entity as long as it is for the betterment of Nigeria,” he stated in an interview on Thursday.

Ibegbu’s remarks come amid a flurry of political activity, including the notable endorsements of President Bola Tinubu for a second term by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Minister of Works, David Umahi. Addressing these endorsements, Ibegbu took a measured stance, acknowledging the right of individuals to express their views. “It is their right to take their positions,” he said, “but it is the Nigerian people who will determine their political future in the years to come.” He underscored that the ultimate power lies with the electorate, not just political elites.

Trump now states that House Republicans ought to vote for the release of Epstein documents.

Turning his attention to the broader Igbo political landscape, Ibegbu called on Igbo leaders to align their actions and words with the aspirations of their people. “The political integrity and dignity of Ndigbo can only be taken seriously when their leading political actors speak and act in a manner that reflects the interests of their people,” he urged. His statement highlights a growing sentiment that regional leaders must prioritize grassroots concerns to maintain credibility and influence.

As Nigeria’s political scene continues to evolve, Ibegbu’s comments reflect a blend of optimism for constructive dialogue and a reminder of the electorate’s decisive role. Whether Obi’s meetings or Tinubu’s endorsements will sway the nation’s trajectory remains to be seen, but the focus, Ibegbu insists, must stay on the greater good.
