Nigerian singer Chike has revealed the strong relationship guidance he received from his mother, emphasizing the importance of financial ility and personal responsibility when choosing a life partner.
Speaking during an interview on the Ada’s Room podcast, the 33 year old artist explained that his mother advised him never to marry someone without a source of livelihood, regardless of emotional attachment. According to him, the advice has shaped his perspective on relationships and long term commitment.
Chike noted that his mother stressed the importance of choosing a partner who brings value beyond love, warning that financial imbalance in a relationship could lead to future strain. He explained that when one partner carries the burden of supporting both the household and extended family, it may create tension and inility over time.
The singer added that he has taken this guidance seriously, incorporating it into how he evaluates potential partners. He shared that he now asks important questions about lifestyle, productivity, and personal responsibility before getting deeply involved.
Beyond financial independence, Chike said his mother also cautioned him about marrying into situations with heavy family obligations. He pointed out that such responsibilities, especially when tied to a partner who is not financially productive, can become overwhelming in the long run.
Encouraging men to think beyond physical attraction, Chike highlighted the importance of shared values, growth, and ility in building a lasting relationship. He maintained that while love is essential, it should be supported by practical considerations that ensure a healthy and balanced partnership.
