Chelsea Football Club has been charged by the Football Association (FA) with 74 breaches of regulations concerning agents, intermediaries, and third-party investments, covering the period from 2009 to 2022, particularly during the 2010/11 to 2015/16 seasons under Roman Abramovich’s ownership. The FA has given the club until September 19, 2025, to respond to these allegations.

The charges arose during a due diligence review conducted by Chelsea’s current owners, Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, prior to their acquisition of the club in 2022. Following this discovery, the new owners self-reported the issues to the FA, highlighting their commitment to transparency and cooperation throughout the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Possible sanctions for the alleged breaches may include fines, points deductions, or transfer bans. Chelsea aims to resolve the matter promptly and is working closely with the FA to address the charges effectively.

This situation comes on top of recent financial difficulties for the club, such as a €31 million fine imposed by UEFA in July 2025 for violations of financial regulations related to permissible losses and squad spending limits. Chelsea is currently under a four-year settlement agreement with UEFA aimed at stabilizing its finances.
