Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) launched its inaugural “Creator Lens” event on November 19, 2025, at Nairobi’s Shamba Café, to empower East Africa’s emerging content creators. The initiative, encapsulated by the acronym LENS—Learn, Explore, Network, and Synerg aims to inspire creativity and foster connections among both new and established creators in the region.
The event featured four immersive experience zones tailored to distinct creative genres. In the Podcast Zone, led by TV and radio host Dr. Ofweneke, Canon showcased video solutions suitable for podcasters, including the EOS C80 and R5 Mark II. The Fashion & Lifestyle Zone featured content creator Joy Kendi, who demonstrated Canon’s compact tools for beauty and lifestyle projects. The Wedding Zone, presented by videographer Gabriel Kasha, highlighted solutions like the C50 and R5 Mark II for wedding videography. Lastly, the Cinematic Zone included wildlife filmmaker Hans Ngoteya, who showcased Canon’s cinema solutions for wildlife.
Additionally, the event hosted panel discussions, hands-on product sessions, and live demonstrations by industry experts. A content creation competition was also held, with participants using Canon equipment to shoot and edit videos, judged on creativity and technical skill. Winners received exclusive prizes and mentorship.
Rashad Ghani, B2C Business Unit Director at Canon, emphasized the initiative’s goal of nurturing a vibrant community of storytellers in Africa. While the first event took place in Kenya, Canon plans to expand the “Creator Lens” experience to Morocco and Nigeria, encouraging creators to transition from smartphones to Canon’s professional cameras, thus enhancing their content creation journey.
