The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to import a large quantity of ‘Canadian Loud,’ a potent strain of synthetic cannabis. According to a statement issued on Sunday, October 6, by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja, Munju was arrested during the inward clearance of passengers from a KLM flight originating from Canada.
The suspect, who was arriving in Nigeria for the first time, was found with 74 parcels of the illegal substance, weighing a total of 35.20 kilograms, concealed in two of her three bags. The discovery was made during a joint inspection of her luggage at Terminal 1 of the Lagos airport on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
In her statement to authorities, Munju revealed that she had been recruited through an online platform to traffic the drugs for a promised payment of 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery in Lagos. She admitted to accepting the offer due to financial pressure, as she needed the funds to pay for her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.
