In India, around 97% of users reported complete unavailability, with over 2,000 outage reports filed at the start time.

OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its status page, confirming that both ChatGPT and another service, Sora, were affected. They were investigating the issue but did not provide a clear timeline for resolution. Users were advised to check the status page for real-time updates. The outage lasted several hours, but services began to be restored gradually. By the early morning of December 4, ChatGPT was operational again, and Downdetector reported no ongoing issues.

This incident marked the second significant outage of ChatGPT in recent months, raising concerns about the platform’s reliability amidst increasing demand for AI tools. Users were cautioned to stay vigilant against potential phishing attempts and to monitor OpenAI’s official channels for ongoing updates about service status.
