The Atlanta Braves have enhanced their outfield by signing veteran Mike Yastrzemski to a two-year, $23 million contract, which includes a $9 million salary for 2026 and $10 million for 2027, along with a $7 million club option for 2028 and a $4 million buyout. At 35, Yastrzemski brings extensive experience from his seven-year MLB career, predominantly with the San Francisco Giants, where he averaged .238 with 123 home runs and 364 RBIs over 840 games. In 2025, he played for both the Giants and the Kansas City Royals, achieving a combined .233 batting average, 17 home runs, and 46 RBIs in 146 games. His performance improved notably after joining the Royals, where he hit nine home runs in just 50 games.

Defensively, Yastrzemski is a two-time Gold Glove finalist, capable of playing all three outfield positions, which adds depth and flexibility to the Braves’ lineup. Manager Walt Weiss intends to primarily utilize him in left field, leveraging his defensive skills. Alongside existing outfielders Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuña Jr., Yastrzemski’s presence is aimed at bolstering the team’s roster and allowing regular resting opportunities for starters. His left-handed bat is particularly valuable against right-handed pitchers.

In addition to his on-field contributions, Yastrzemski has committed to donating 1% of his salary to the Atlanta Braves Foundation, emphasizing his connection to the community. This signing is part of the Braves’ broader strategy to strengthen the team for a championship pursuit, following recent roster moves like acquiring infielder Mauricio Dubón and re-signing closer Raisel Iglesias.
