Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has been suspended from the first team and fined following the emergence of a video in which he appears to mock the club‘s sporting director, Roland Virkus. The footage, which surfaced on social media, shows Neuhaus conversing with individuals wearing Gladbach kits, during which he reportedly referred to Virkus as “the worst manager in the world” and commented on his annual salary of €4 million.
In response to the incident, the club imposed a substantial fine on Neuhaus and suspended him from first-team training for four weeks. CEO Stefan Stegemann condemned Neuhaus’s behavior, stating that his actions were “damaging to the club and unacceptable,” and that they “deeply disappointed the people involved,” emphasizing that such conduct is incompatible with the club’s values.
Neuhaus, 28, joined Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2017 and has accumulated over 200 appearances for the club. However, his playing time has diminished in recent seasons, with the midfielder making only 17 league appearances last season as the team finished 10th in the Bundesliga.
The incident has raised questions about Neuhaus’s future at the club, especially considering his reduced role in the previous season. The disciplinary measures taken by Borussia Mönchengladbach underscore the club’s commitment to maintaining a professional environment and upholding its values.
