Border Guard Bangladesh officials said they detained 21 people today who were attempting to cross illegally into India in a remote area near the international border. The detainees, all Bangladeshi nationals, were intercepted during a routine patrol in the border district, authorities said.

Local officials reported that the group was found attempting to breach the boundary fence under cover of darkness, raising concerns about unlawful movement and potential human trafficking. The detainees were taken into custody by border guards and are now being held pending further investigation.

Border Guard Bangladesh said it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify the circumstances behind the attempted crossing and to determine whether any criminal networks were involved. Authorities stressed that crossing international borders without proper documentation is illegal and poses serious security and safety risks.

The detained individuals are expected to face processing under relevant immigration and border security laws. Bangladesh and India have longstanding cooperation on border management and regularly coordinate to address challenges related to smuggling, human trafficking and unauthorised migration.
