Bode George Calls for Peace Between Nyesom Wike and Seyi Makinde

Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has described the ongoing rift between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as embarrassing. The two former allies have recently made headlines due to disagreements linked to the party’s leadership crisis.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, George urged both Wike and Makinde to “sheathe their swords” and end the public feud. “I want to advise them. Enough of these shenanigans. In politics, whatever you want to do within your system, you do it,” he said.

Meanwhile, Wike claimed that Makinde’s anger stems from not being offered a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu. Wike made this assertion during a response to Makinde’s allegations in Port Harcourt on Monday.

He explained that the G-5 group, which includes himself, former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Samuel Ortom (Benue State), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State), met with President Tinubu to discuss the matter. According to Wike, the president acknowledged the issue and promised to take action.

“When we agreed on this, Seyi’s problem was that he was not given a ministerial slot. Even when he was saying it, you could see the anger in him. We told him to ‘calm down,’” Wike said.

He added, “That was even the reason we went to see the President. The President said, ‘There are certain factors I may not have considered; however, something has to be done.’ What again? You already had it on your mind.”

Wike also recalled an incident where the Rivers Ijaw people organized a reception for him in Port Harcourt, during which Governor Ortom expressed support for Tinubu’s second term. Makinde reportedly reacted negatively to this, questioning the support in the newspapers.

This public disagreement highlights ongoing tensions within the PDP as key figures navigate political alliances and ambitions ahead of future elections.
