Bobrisky Relocates Abroad, Cites Bullying by Nigerian Officials

Controversial Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has announced his relocation to a new country, seeking a more accepting and respectful environment. The social media personality, who has long been a polarizing figure in Nigeria, revealed his decision on March 18, 2025, via a TikTok live session, marking a definitive break from his homeland.

Bobrisky expressed relief at finding a place where he is officially recognized as female, a status he claims Nigeria would never grant him. “If I lived in Nigeria for 100 years, they would never put ‘female’ on my passport or driver’s license. But here, I’m respected for who I am,” he stated, emphasizing the newfound appreciation and dignity he experiences abroad. While he did not disclose the specific country, his comments suggest it aligns with his identity and offers the acceptance he has long sought.

The move follows years of friction with Nigerian authorities and society, which Bobrisky says culminated in persistent harassment. “Why would I want to leave a place they appreciate, love, care for me to a place I will be bullied? Senators, ministers bully me,” he lamented during the live session. He pointed to an incident in November 2024, when he claims Nigerian ministers and senators fixated on him, as a turning point. “I never knew I was so special until November 2024 when ministers and senators started discussing me. Imagine a minister leaving work to focus on Bobrisky. Am I that important?” he asked rhetorically, highlighting what he perceives as misplaced priorities by officials who “left their jobs” to target him.

Bobrisky’s frustration with Nigeria is palpable. “Nothing will bring me back to Nigeria. I will never live in Nigeria. If I need to come to Nigeria, it will be a visit because this country suits me,” he declared, signaling his intent to start a new chapter abroad. He added, “Nigeria is never my home anymore, I’m done with you guys,” underscoring his disillusionment with a nation he feels has judged and rejected him. “I don’t want to be in a place people are judgemental,” he concluded.

The announcement comes amid a tumultuous period for Bobrisky, who faced legal battles in 2024, including a six-month prison sentence for naira abuse and subsequent allegations of bribery involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His relocation follows failed attempts to leave Nigeria, including an arrest at the Seme border in October 2024. Now settled abroad, Bobrisky appears resolute in his decision, promising only occasional visits to Nigeria while embracing a fresh start in a country that, in his words, “appreciates and respects” him for who he is.
