Blumhouse Productions has announced plans to adapt the acclaimed horror comic series “Something Is Killing the Children” into both a live-action feature film and an adult animated television series, marking a significant milestone for the popular BOOM! Studios title. The announcement was made on October 24, 2025.

The comic, co-created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, debuted in 2019 and has sold over 5 million copies globally. It centers on Erica Slaughter, a fierce monster hunter dealing with malevolent creatures that prey on children in a small town. The series has received critical acclaim and multiple Eisner Awards, solidifying its reputation in the horror genre.

Both adaptations will be developed simultaneously, with James Tynion IV overseeing the animated series to ensure fidelity to the source material. The live-action film will be produced by Tynion and BOOM! Studios’ Stephen Christy, with Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer as executive producers.

This announcement follows previous attempts to adapt the series for television, including a Netflix project with horror specialist Mike Flanagan, which was ultimately abandoned due to creative differences. Subsequent projects by “Dark” creators Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese also did not progress. With Blumhouse’s involvement, the project is positioned for success, leveraging the studio’s expertise in horror adaptations.
