Biafra Government in Exile Criticizes Nigeria’s Treatment of Igbos, Calls for Self-Determination

The Simon Ekpa-led in Exile has the Nigerian government, claiming South-Easterners continue to discrimination despite their commitment to the country. Ekpa, speaking on his social media platform, urged Igbos in Nigerian government roles to consider supporting the Biafra movement, arguing that they receive “continuous ” of their fundamental human rights in .

Ekpa called for Igbos to rally behind the upcoming Declaration of the Restoration of Independence of Biafra, scheduled from November 29 to 3, 2024, in Finland. According to him, this event represents an “inalienable right to self-determination” and a crucial toward self-preservation. He mentioned that over 50 million Igbos have reportedly voted in favor of a Biafra , expressing support for an independent state via a legally recognized .

This call for unity within the Biafra movement comes amid recent developments from the Nigerian government aimed at the South-East. President Bola Tinubu recently appointed Bianca Ojukwu, widow of Biafran Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, to his cabinet. This move, however, has sparked mixed reactions. Enyinnaya Abaribe referred to the dismissal of Women Affairs Minister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye and the subsequent appointment of Bianca Ojukwu as a “Renewed Shege” for Igbos by the Tinubu , highlighting the complex political sentiments within the South-East.
