Bayern Munich has secured the signing of Colombian winger Luis Díaz from Liverpool on a four-year contract, reportedly for €75 million ($86.67 million). Díaz, 28, joined Liverpool in January 2022 from Porto for €50 million and had a contract running until 2027. Over four seasons at Liverpool, he made 148 appearances, scoring 41 goals and providing 23 assists. His standout season was 2024–25, where he netted 13 goals and provided 7 assists to help Liverpool win their 20th English league title. He also won the FA Cup in 2022 and League Cups in 2022 and 2024.
In a heartfelt farewell, Díaz expressed gratitude to fans, teammates, and coaches, and paid tribute to former teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically died in a car accident. Bayern‘s sporting director, Max Eberl, praised Díaz’s quality and immediate impact potential. Díaz is the second Liverpool player to transfer to Germany this summer, following Jarell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen.
The transfer fee of €75 million makes Díaz the third most expensive signing in Bayern Munich’s history, behind Harry Kane and Lucas Hernández. Díaz has signed a contract until 2029 and will wear the number 14 shirt. His annual salary has increased significantly to €14 million gross, compared to the €2.7 million net he earned in England. The deal was managed by Bayern’s CEO, Jan-Christian Dreesen, and Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes. The arrival of Díaz aims to strengthen Bayern’s attack following the departures of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller, and the injury to Jamal Musiala. Eberl highlighted the Colombian’s quality and experience, while Díaz expressed his enthusiasm for winning all possible titles with his new team.
Díaz’s move to Bayern Munich is part of a broader trend in the 2025 summer transfer market, characterized by record investments, a focus on young talent, and strategic moves by major European clubs. Liverpool has been particularly active, signing Florian Wirtz for €137.5 million and Hugo Ekitike for €95 million, both young offensive talents intended to lead a new project under Arne Slot. Manchester United has also made significant investments, adding Bryan Mbeumo for €75 million and Matheus Cunha for €74.2 million. Arsenal has strengthened its midfield and attack with Martín Zubimendi for €70 million and Viktor Gyökeres for €65.8 million. Chelsea has focused on the future with young signings Jamie Gittens for €64.3 million and João Pedro for €63.7 million. Real Madrid has incorporated Dean Huijsen for €58 million and Trent Alexander-Arnold for €10 million, showcasing a mixed strategy of present and future planning. This market reflects a clear trend towards rejuvenating squads with high-potential young talent, positioning youth as the new premium value in elite football.
The 2025 summer transfer window continues to be active, with European clubs preparing for significant movements. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool have already invested over €700 million in signings. Bayern Munich’s acquisition of Luis Díaz for €75 million is among the notable deals, while Real Madrid has spent €173 million on four reinforcements: Huijsen, Carreras, Arnold, and Mastantuono.
Despite these substantial investments, several key players have yet to define their futures. Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid, with Tottenham willing to pay nearly €90 million. Alexander Isak seeks to depart Newcastle, with the club demanding over €100 million, and Liverpool is a possible destination following the sale of Luis Díaz and the imminent departure of Darwin Núñez. Manchester United is looking for more attackers after signing Cunha and Mbeumo and is favored to sign Benjamin Sesko for around €70 million. AC Milan is interested in Dusan Vlahovic, now displaced at Juventus after the arrival of Jonathan David. Kolo Muani, returning to PSG, is another forward on the market.
Additionally, players like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Xavi Simons, and Samu could change teams, with the Premier League and Bayern Munich attentive to these developments.
The transfer of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich underscores the club’s commitment to enhancing its attacking options and maintaining competitiveness in both domestic and European competitions. Díaz’s experience and recent form make him a valuable addition to Bayern’s squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
