Bayern Munich chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen answered critics by pointing out that, by numbers, the senior squad is in line with Europe’s top clubs. He said injuries have been the main issue and they happened at the same time.

”Our squad isn’t too small. Real Madrid have 25 players, Arsenal too, Liverpool have 27. PSG and FC Barcelona each have 23,” Dreesen said in an interview. “We have 25. And we have three long-term injured players in Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Itō.

“If we had brought in three more players in the summer, what would happen when they return? When they’re back, we’ll have a top-notch squad, including depth. And our young players still have a chance, as we’ve seen recently with Lennart Karl and Wisdom Mike.”

Dreesen noted that adding more players in the summer could have created selection problems once injured players came back. He stressed that the club still has enough quality and room for young talent to grow.

The emergence of 17-year-old Lennart Karl has helped fill gaps in . His rapid rise has eased problems caused by Jamal Musiala’s absence and Luis Díaz’s suspension in the Champions League. Karl’s form has given Bayern extra options while injured players recover.
