The Caretaker Committee of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has issued a strong warning, holding Governor Bala Mohammed responsible if any harm comes to their members or supporters.

This factional caretaker committee, recently appointed by the Nyesom Wike-led camp of the PDP under Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, raised the alarm while formally accepting their roles. They pledged to faithfully carry out their duties according to the party’s constitution and the directives of the national leadership.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, committee members including Jungudo Haruna Mohammed and Alhaji Safyanu Zubairu expressed gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and other leaders in the factional National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) for their ongoing support and leadership aimed at stabilizing and advancing the party.

The committee emphasized that they are law-abiding citizens who reject violence, thuggery, or hooliganism, instead valuing intellectualism, democracy, and respect for the rule of law. However, Haruna Mohammed warned, “this stance should not be misconstrued as a sign of fear or weakness.” He added that the committee will carry out its legal and constitutional duties without fear and that “should anything untoward happen to any member or supporter of the party, the Governor of Bauchi State, His Excellency Bala Mohammed, shall be held responsible.”

The committee also condemned the national convention that produced the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP leadership, describing it as conducted in blatant disregard of valid court judgments and without supervision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mohammed reminded the public that meetings with former governors, ministers, or National Assembly members do not grant legitimacy. “Legitimacy can only be derived from strict compliance with extant laws, adherence to the Constitution of the party, and obedience to valid court orders,” he said.

He criticized the faction behind the Turaki leadership for violating the party’s constitution and blaming Minister Nyesom Wike or the APC for the consequences. He recalled a similar failed attempt to remove Senator Anyanwu as National Secretary before his tenure ended, saying they will fail again.

Mohammed stressed that courts are guided by facts, law, and constitutional compliance, not social status or political influence. He dismissed claims that INEC recognized the Turaki faction as mere media propaganda.

Following an Oyo State High Court decision striking out INEC as a defendant in the case, he said no decision from that suit can bind INEC. He noted that the faction has now rushed to the Federal High Court seeking an order to force INEC to recognize the disputed convention and elected National Working Committee members.

Finally, the committee ordered all “illegal” occupants of PDP secretariats across Bauchi State to remove their belongings and vacate within 14 days, warning that failure to comply will lead to lawful consequences.
