Bashir Ahmad Warns Wike Against Destabilising APC

Former presidential media aide, Bashir Ahmad, has cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against actions he described as attempts to disrupt the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the party will not tolerate any form of internal destabilisation.

Ahmad issued the warning while reacting to the ongoing exchange of words between Wike and the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru. According to him, Wike’s public support for President Bola Tinubu does not automatically translate into membership of the APC or grant him the authority to interfere in the party’s internal affairs.

In a post shared on X, Ahmad backed Basiru’s position, stressing that political support for the president cuts across party lines and is not exclusive to APC members. He noted that many Nigerians who are not members of the ruling party openly support President Tinubu, making Wike’s case neither special nor exceptional.

“The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has reminded Nyesom Wike that his support for President Bola Tinubu does not automatically make him a member of the APC,” Ahmad stated. “Millions of non-APC Nigerians also support Mr. President and his own is no different.”

Ahmad further accused the FCT minister of attempting to destabilise the APC in Rivers State, warning that such moves would be strongly resisted by party stakeholders. He emphasised that the APC has its own structure, values, and internal processes, which must be respected by anyone seeking to engage with the party.

In a sharp remark, Ahmad said the “spirit” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not welcome within the APC, a comment widely interpreted as a reference to Wike’s political background and style. He argued that the ruling party would not allow practices associated with the opposition party to undermine its unity and stability.

“His attempt to destabilise the party in Rivers State will not be tolerated, and he cannot bring the spirit of PDP into the APC,” Ahmad warned.

The latest comments reflect deepening political tensions surrounding Wike’s role in national politics and his relationship with the APC, as debates continue over party loyalty, influence, and boundaries within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
