Comrade Yerima Shettima, National President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has called on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to adopt more people-centered policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
In an interview with The Sun, Shettima expressed concern over certain policies of the current government, which he believes fail to inspire hope for the average citizen. He stressed the importance of crafting policies that address the immediate challenges of Nigerians, particularly in the areas of hunger and insecurity.
“There is nothing bad in dropping a policy that does not give hope to the people,” Shettima stated. “They should come up with policies that will allow Nigerians to breathe.”
Shettima further emphasized the need for sensitivity in implementing economic models, noting that policies successful in other countries may not necessarily work in Nigeria due to its unique circumstances. He underscored the country’s abundant resources, asserting that better governance could alleviate the hardships faced by citizens.
“This country is hugely blessed, and there is no reason for Nigerians to be in this mess if the government decides to be more sensitive to the plight of the people. Yes, there is hunger, there is insecurity, and Nigerians want to see gradual progress,” he added.
While acknowledging that the administration has had limited time for a full assessment, Shettima urged the government to inspire hope by making tangible improvements. “The onus is still on the government to raise the leadership bar that will inspire hope in the people,” he said.
Shettima also attributed Nigeria’s current economic struggles to the previous administration led by Muhammadu Buhari, noting that it would take years to correct the damage done during that era. He cautioned that reversing the effects of past mismanagement cannot happen overnight but stressed the need for visible progress.
“The reality is that the government cannot reverse the damage of the Buhari regime as easily as most Nigerians think,” Shettima observed. “They cannot even reverse all the mess in four years, but Nigerians should begin to see conscious relief, improvement, and policies that give hope.”
The AYCF president’s remarks highlight growing public expectations for the Tinubu administration to address the nation’s pressing challenges with urgency and empathy. By prioritizing inclusive policies, the government could foster trust and signal a commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
I dont see why we should listen to AYCF President. Tinubu should follow his own path, not be dictated by others.
I think AYCF is just trying to gain favor with Tinubu. Their motives seem questionable. What do you guys think?
Youre reading too much into it. AYCF has their own agenda, not just Tinubus favor.
I dont trust politicians like Tinubu to actually care about sensitive policies. Its all just for show. Lets see some real change!
I think AYCFs approach is too idealistic. We need practical solutions, not just hope. Lets see some real action!
Idealism inspires action. Practical solutions can stem from hopeful visions. Keep an open mind.
I think AYCFs suggestion is unrealistic. Tinubu should focus on practical policies, not just being sensitive and hopeful.
Sensitivity and hope are essential in leadership. Practical policies cant succeed without them.
I think AYCF needs to focus on action, not just words. Lets see some real change, not just empty promises.
I dont trust Tinubus motives. His policies seem self-serving. We need leaders who truly care about the people.
I dont think Tinubu should listen to AYCF. Their ideas are outdated and not relevant to the current situation.
I dont think Tinubu should listen to AYCF. Their policies might not be whats best for everyone. Lets think critically!
I think AYCF President is just playing politics. Why should Tinubu listen to him? Lets see actions, not just words.
I think the AYCF President is just looking for attention. Tinubu doesnt need his advice to make policies.
