Australian meteorological authorities have issued new heatwave warnings as dangerously high temperatures affected several regions across the country today. Forecasts showed prolonged heat conditions with daytime temperatures expected to exceed seasonal averages, raising concerns for public health and infrastructure.

The Bureau of Meteorology said parts of eastern, southern and central Australia are experiencing severe to extreme heat, with hot overnight conditions offering little relief. Authorities warned that vulnerable groups including the elderly, children and those with chronic illnesses face heightened health risks during the heatwave.

State emergency services urged residents to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated and check on neighbors who may be at risk. Fire agencies also raised alert levels, warning that hot and dry conditions could increase the likelihood of bushfires in affected regions.

Officials said cooling centers may be activated in some cities if temperatures persist, while energy providers are monitoring demand as air conditioning use rises. Authorities emphasized the importance of following official guidance as the heatwave continues.
