Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has firmly denied reports suggesting he has stepped down from the 2027 presidential race in favor of Labour Party’s Peter Obi, calling the claims “false and misleading.”
Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in the 2023 election, was alleged in some media reports to have endorsed Obi for a one-term presidency as part of a proposed regional power-sharing arrangement.
However, his media adviser, Paul Ibe, swiftly debunked the story. In a post shared on his verified X account on Saturday, December 27, Ibe dismissed the claims as baseless, writing, “Fake news: Not on the menu!” alongside a screenshot of the circulating report.
The denial comes amid speculation that Peter Obi is preparing to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move that could reshape the opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general election.
Atiku’s camp has not issued any further comment on the matter, but the former vice president’s rejection of the claims signals his continued interest in remaining a central figure in Nigeria’s political future.
