Mikel Arteta has moved quickly to ease tensions with Chelsea following an awkward moment before Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semifinal second leg at the Emirates. Despite the Gunners sealing a narrow 1–0 win on the night and progressing 4–2 on aggregate, the post-match conversation shifted away from the result and toward a disagreement during the pre-match warm-ups.
Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior accused Arsenal’s staff of showing a “lack of respect,” claiming their presence in Chelsea’s half disrupted his players’ preparations. Footage captured Rosenior instructing opposition staff to stay clear, later explaining that while he holds no personal issue with Arteta or the club, he felt his team’s routine was affected at a crucial moment.
Arteta responded calmly and diplomatically when asked about the incident. The Arsenal manager stressed that no disrespect was intended and offered an apology if any staff actions caused frustration. He described such situations as common in football, particularly with goalkeepers practicing long kicks that can occasionally cross into the other half.
While emotions can run high in knockout ties, Arteta’s measured response reflects a desire to keep the focus on the football. With Wembley now in sight, both sides will likely prefer to move past the brief touchline tension and concentrate on bigger challenges ahead.
