Sandro Tonali has emerged as a potential summer transfer target for Arsenal, with the Newcastle United midfielder once again being linked with a move away from St James’ Park.
The Gunners were reportedly keen on signing the Italian during the January window, but a deal failed to materialise. After Newcastle paid £55 million to secure Tonali’s services, the club were reluctant to consider offers mid-season. However, fresh comments from his agent suggest the situation could change once the campaign concludes.
Tonali has been a standout performer for Newcastle, bringing composure, physicality and defensive steel to the heart of midfield. The 25-year-old is said to be focused on helping the Magpies secure Champions League football, a key ambition that could influence his future. Newcastle’s ability to consistently compete at the highest level may prove crucial in convincing him to stay.
Agent Giuseppe Riso acknowledged that transfer discussions will take place in the summer, stressing that no decisions will be made until the season ends. He also noted that Tonali and his family are settled in Newcastle, but stopped short of ruling out a move.
For Arsenal, the comments offer encouragement. Mikel Arteta is believed to want more strength and control in midfield, and Tonali’s Premier League experience could make him an ideal fit.
If Newcastle fall short of their ambitions, interest in Tonali is only likely to intensify.
