Armed Bandits Attack Katsina Hospital, Injure Two, Abduct Three

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed an alarming attack by armed bandits on Kankara General Hospital on the evening of January 14, 2025. The assault, which took place around 8:20 p.m., resulted in two injuries and the abduction of three individuals.

According to police spokesperson DSP Sadiq Aliyu, the bandits, armed and aggressive, entered the hospital premises, causing widespread panic with indiscriminate gunfire. The police from Kankara Divisional Headquarters responded quickly, engaging the bandits in a firefight that led to the assailants’ retreat.

Dr. Murtala Saleh, aged 30, and Kamala Suleiman, 20, were the casualties; Dr. Saleh was shot in his right thigh, and Suleiman sustained a gunshot wound to the knee. Both were promptly moved to a medical facility where they are reported to be in stable condition.

While the police managed to disrupt the bandits’ plans, three people were kidnapped during the confusion, though their identities are being withheld for security purposes.

CP Aliyu Musa, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, condemned the attack, labeling it a “heinous crime against humanity.” He has launched a full-scale manhunt for the perpetrators and has ordered additional security deployments to the area to prevent further incidents.

DSP Aliyu stated, “Efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victims safely and bring the culprits to justice.” The police have also called on the public to remain alert and to assist with any information that might help in capturing the bandits.

This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Katsina State, highlighting the need for community vigilance and continued efforts by security forces to protect civilians and medical facilities from such brazen attacks.
