The All Progressives Congress has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress linking it to the recent shooting incident in Edo State, describing the claims as baseless and reckless.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC called for a thorough investigation into the incident. The party urged law enforcement agencies to scrutinise the ADC and its leaders as prime suspects while reaffirming its commitment to law, order, and national security.

Gunshots had disrupted an ADC event in Edo State on Tuesday, reportedly endangering former Edo State Governor John Oyegun, 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate Olumide Akpata, among others.

Reacting to the incident, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi had accused the APC of orchestrating the attack, alleging a pattern of political intimidation against opposition parties.

The APC, however, denied any involvement and described the accusation as delusional. The ruling party stated that it was unreasonable for the ADC to apportion blame before the conclusion of investigations by security agencies. It argued that the opposition party had declared itself accuser, investigator, prosecutor, and judge in its own case.

Condemning violence in the political space, the APC said any act of violence must be rejected by all well meaning Nigerians. It called on the police and other law enforcement authorities to conduct an expeditious investigation and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

The party also reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that the administration remains focused on building a stronger, more resilient, and prosperous nation for all citizens.
