The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured its new members that ongoing investigations and legal cases by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will proceed unimpeded. This reassurance comes at a time when several party members are under scrutiny due to various allegations.

Notably, the EFCC recently detained former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over issues concerning the management of recovered Abacha loot and other financial irregularities. Although granted bail, Malami remains in custody after failing to meet the bail conditions. He faces serious allegations, including money laundering and abuse of office.

In a separate case, former Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, was arraigned on eight counts of fraud totaling N2.26 billion. The charges against Ngige involve contract splitting and accepting illicit gratifications during his tenure as the supervising minister of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). He has pleaded not guilty to all accusations.

The APC’s statement emphasizes the party’s commitment to transparency and due process, highlighting that it will not interfere in the EFCC’s activities. The party aims to uphold the rule of law and insists that all members must comply with legal and ethical standards.

In its response to ongoing investigations, the APC has called for patience from the public, trusting the judicial process to ensure that all matters are handled fairly and in accordance with the law. This commitment to justice reflects the party’s intention to prioritize integrity amid mounting scrutiny of its members.
