The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for comments made during an interview with ABN TV that allegedly incited public unrest regarding Nigeria’s current economic challenges. Amaechi, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State, expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of visible public response to the nation’s economic difficulties, especially from the youth.

During the interview, Amaechi lamented the rising cost of living, escalating fuel prices, and other economic pressures that have plagued Nigerians. He expressed surprise and disappointment at the subdued reaction from citizens, suggesting that he had anticipated more significant protests and demonstrations against the worsening conditions. According to Amaechi, the silence of the populace, particularly young people, is concerning given the severity of the economic situation.

In response, the APC issued a sharp rebuke through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka. In a statement titled “Rotimi Amaechi, Inciting Anarchy Is Irresponsible and Unpatriotic,” Morka condemned the former minister’s remarks as both “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic.” The APC accused Amaechi of attempting to incite chaos and public unrest at a time when the country is striving to address economic challenges and stabilize the situation.

The ruling party emphasized that such statements from a political figure of Amaechi’s stature are unhelpful and could undermine the government’s efforts to implement solutions aimed at easing the economic burden on Nigerians. The APC urged citizens to remain patient, assuring them that measures are being taken to tackle the economic issues, including efforts to stabilize fuel prices and reduce the cost of living.

The party further called on political leaders to exercise caution and responsibility in their public statements, stressing that fueling public discontent during such a critical period could have far-reaching consequences. The APC reiterated its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges while fostering unity and stability across the nation.
