Dr. Ayoola Oduntan, Group Managing Director of Amo Group, has donated a 2,000-capacity Model Broiler Poultry Pen Complex to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. The facility was commissioned during the Faculty’s Veterinary Oath Taking and Induction Ceremony.

An alumnus of the Faculty, Class of 1990, Oduntan described the donation as a personal commitment to give back to the institution that shaped his career. “Returning to contribute meaningfully to the university has always been a personal goal. The faculty laid the foundation for the values, discipline, and vision that guided my professional journey,” he said.

The complex, designed and constructed by Diversay Solutions Ltd., a subsidiary of Amo Group, is a fully integrated commercial poultry operation. It features a 2,000-capacity broiler poultry pen, an administrative office for poultry management, a borehole for potable water, and an initial stock of 2,000 broiler chicks with feed provided up to market weight. An offtake arrangement ensures birds are purchased at maturity, enabling sustainable operations.

Oduntan highlighted that the initiative aims to groom veterinary students into entrepreneurs by exposing them to practical poultry production, business management, and value chain operations while still in school. “Students will gain real-world skills in animal health, production, management, accountability, and value creation. No graduate should leave without the capacity to create income and contribute to national development,” he said.

Representing ABU’s Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Raymond Bako, commended Oduntan for his foresight, noting the facility would enhance practical training, research, and entrepreneurship. Oduntan also delivered the keynote on “The Ingredients of Successful Poultry Startups” and received an Award of Excellence for his contributions to veterinary education, agribusiness, and national food security.
