Akpabio, Bamidele Urge Unity and Compassion as Muslims Celebrate Eid el Fitr

As Muslims across Nigeria celebrate Eid al Fitr, top leaders of the Senate have extended warm greetings, calling for unity, compassion, and renewed commitment to national development.

President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging Nigerians to uphold the values of generosity and empathy beyond the festive period. In a statement issued by his media aide Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio emphasized the importance of almsgiving and kindness, particularly towards the less privileged.

He noted that Eid symbolizes forgiveness, compassion, and unity, urging citizens to embrace these virtues in building a more harmonious society. Akpabio also extended goodwill messages to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Muslims nationwide, praying for peace, progress, and prosperity across the country.

Similarly, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele called on leaders at all levels to draw lessons from the spiritual significance of Ramadan by prioritizing human development and inclusive governance. He stressed that the values of Eid should inspire peaceful coexistence, especially in light of recent security challenges such as s in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Bamidele highlighted the need for long term investments in education, healthcare, nutrition, and social welfare, noting that security operations alone cannot address the root causes of violence. He also urged religious and community leaders to promote tolerance and dialogue as tools for conflict resolution.

The lawmaker pointed to ongoing efforts by the National Assembly, including constitutional review processes and security focused initiatives, aimed at strengthening governance and improving local capacity to maintain peace.

Both leaders agreed that Eid el Fitr is not only a celebration of faith but also a reminder of the responsibility to foster compassion, unity, and active citizenship in Nigeria.
