African Union convened an emergency meeting today bringing together heads of state, diplomats and security officials to address escalating conflicts and growing humanitarian risks across several regions of the continent. The session was called amid rising concerns over instability, civilian displacement and the spread of violence in multiple member states.

According to AU officials, discussions focused on conflict hotspots, the protection of civilians and the urgent need for coordinated diplomatic and security responses. Leaders also reviewed the strain on humanitarian systems as millions of people face food insecurity, displacement and limited access to basic services due to prolonged fighting.

The meeting emphasized the importance of African led solutions, regional cooperation and stronger engagement with international partners to prevent further deterioration. Calls were also made for renewed peace efforts, ceasefires where possible and increased funding for humanitarian relief operations.

The AU said outcomes from the meeting would inform follow up mediation efforts and guide future interventions aimed at stabilizing affected regions and reducing the risk of wider regional spillover.
