Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has dismissed speculation that he could consider a return to the Mali national team, insisting he has no intention of taking up the role again.
Chelle, who recently guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, said his past experience with the Malian team left him deeply hurt.
The 48-year-old coach addressed the issue while responding to questions from reporters about the possibility of coaching Mali in the future.
“I can tell you something, Mali is my country, it’s the country of my mother,” Chelle said.
“And I was humiliated after the game in front of the world.”
His comments come amid growing speculation about his future, as his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is set to expire at the conclusion of the ongoing AFCON tournament.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract, Chelle’s remarks appear to firmly rule out any return to the Malian national team coaching job.
