Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has hinted at a possible tactical switch ahead of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash against Morocco on Wednesday, admitting that player fatigue is beginning to affect his squad.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Malian tactician revealed that the team’s intense style of play may require adjustment as the tournament reaches its decisive stage. Chelle has largely relied on a 4-4-2 diamond formation, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams leading the attack.

The approach has paid off so far, with the Super Eagles scoring 14 goals in five matches and creating more chances than any other team in the competition. Nigeria’s high-tempo, aggressive and energetic style has overwhelmed opponents such as Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique and Algeria.

However, Chelle suggested a more cautious opening against Morocco. “I find that my group is tired; it might be time for me to change my approach. We’ll start that way, I think. We’ll hold on in the first half and try to play our game in the second half,” he said.

Meanwhile, the coach also expressed disappointment over Wilfred Ndidi’s suspension for the semi-final encounter. The midfielder picked up his second yellow card of the tournament during Nigeria’s 2-0 quarter-final victory over Algeria. He had earlier been booked in the Round of 16 clash against Mozambique.

Chelle acknowledged Ndidi’s importance to the team, describing the 29-year-old as a key influence in midfield whose absence will be felt against a strong Moroccan side.
