The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly denounced the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its recent efforts to expand, particularly in light of several state governors defecting to the ruling party. The ADC asserts that these defections are motivated by self-interest rather than genuine belief in the APC’s agenda, undermining Nigeria’s democratic values. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, criticized the defectors, claiming they lack the courage and commitment necessary for true political leadership focused on public welfare.

The ADC argues that the APC’s strategy of assimilating opposition members signals an intention to create a one-party state, posing a threat to Nigeria’s democratic framework. Abdullahi highlighted recent defections from Enugu and Bayelsa states as betrayals of constituents’ trust and part of the APC’s broader strategy to consolidate power.

Additionally, the ADC critiques the APC’s socio-economic reforms, stating that they have worsened poverty and hardship for many Nigerians. Senator Tunde Ogbeha, a prominent ADC member, noted that the ruling party’s policies have failed to alleviate hunger and economic struggles, leading to increased suffering among the populace.

In light of these issues, the ADC is calling for a united opposition to effectively challenge the APC’s dominance. The party emphasizes the importance of upholding democratic ideals and urges citizens to remain vigilant, advocating for political integrity and accountability in governance. The ADC’s position reflects a deep concern for maintaining Nigeria’s democratic principles against perceived threats from governing authorities.
